A Twist of Fate

A Twist of Fate continues the adventures of Freya and her sisters, Scara, Fina, Tauna, Pohla, and their new companions, Fordoc, Aidelle and Brunela. Having successfully escorted a group of troublesome halflings to and back from Edradour, they now set off on the final leg of their journey—getting the halflings home to Cornerbrook. The road is rugged and dangerous, particularly since the sisters thwarted a plan from the exiled Wolfric to ransom Lady Jassmyn of Alhambra. The sisters will need to be on guard from a retaliatory attack. On the road, Aidelle and Fina spy a ruined tower in the distance. Upon investigation, they discover that the tower is part of a larger settlement and castle that once belonged to Wolfric, until a dragon chased him out. With the help of an elvish ranger, Reyn, the group clears out an infestation of goblins that had taken up residence. Finally reaching Cornerbrook, Freya finds it to be a small, defenseless town that had recently been pillaged by Wolfric’s men. She and her party take up residence in the once-flourishing Black Swan Inn and strategize for an attack they know is coming. Meanwhile, Fordoc leads the task of constructing a way station—A Twist of Fate—that will serve as a commercial hub for the area. As they prepare their defenses and assist with the restoration of Cornerbrook and its mysteriously dried-up lake, the sisters face old demons and make new friends. Their party grows and so does Freya’s ambitions. The abandoned castle looms large in her mind. Perhaps it could use a new ruler?

Thomas Fulton writes cozy, lighthearted fantasy because he believes everyone needs a break from the rigors of the world. Thomas is an avid reader and gamer. Drawing on a passion for classic fantasy and game design, he created and ran many tabletop scenarios. Freya and her sisters arose from one of these games. Thomas has been growing these characters and their adventures for many years, to the delight of friends and readers. A Twist of Fate continues the adventures he began in Orc Hai! and furthered in The Trouble with Halflings. Thomas lives in Maple Ridge, British Columbia, with his beautiful and very patient wife.
