A Mikulski Family Story
by
Waldemar W. Mikulski
The narrative begins close to home, with immediate family stories that illustrate the unique experiences of the Polish-Canadian diaspora. Author Waldemar (Wally) Mikulski then takes readers on a genealogical quest through modern Poland, honouring individual family members by viewing their lives through the lens of some of history’s most defining moments—World Wars I and II. Featuring archival family photos and presented in a distinct format, the book is many books in one. It examines everything from surname origins to heraldry and DNA, ultimately seeking to answer the universal questions: “Who am I?” and “Who are my people?” “Truths & Legends bridges history and memory,” says Wally. “The ‘truths’ represent historically verified stories, while the ‘legends’ are rooted in family lore.” The book is a must-read for anyone interested in genealogy and history, and especially for those bearing the surname Mikulski.
Waldemar W. “Wally” Mikulski is an amateur historian who honed his sleuthing and narrative skills over a thirty-year career in the Canadian broadcast and telecom industries. His deep passion for Polish culture and history was ingrained at an early age and was matched only by his love for soccer- a sport he has served for over fifty years as a player, coach, referee, and administrator. A former winner of Humber College’s "Most Promising Writer" award in Radio Broadcasting, Wally is now retired and living in the scenic resort community of Collingwood, Ontario. He hopes this project brings his lifelong writing journey full circle.
